Learning to Meditate

Meditation can be a little confusing when we first get started, but it doesn't have to be. When we take time as grownups to meditate we have a stronger ability to stay at peace when working with kids. But learning how to meditate is not just for grownups. We can take some time to practice ourselves, even just 3 minutes a day and then share what we've learned with the kids in our life.

The video below will guide you through a simple meditation that is perfect for beginners who aren't sure where to start. This meditation is in the Kundalini Yoga tradition and really great for those with a busy mind. Give this a try and then share it with your kids.

With this meditation we focus on the heart beat, allowing us to connect with our heart and share compassion with those around us. This helps us to act consciously rather than react to the behaviors of others. In other words, it might just help you deal gracefully with that pesky relative you've looking to avoid this week... Perfect for the holidays!

This video by Sohan will guide you through the basics. You can find more Kundalini Yoga videos by Sohan on her website www.shinerightnow.com.
